I subscribe to the notion that the place of residence on a vacation (or biz trip) needs to be invisible. For this, I much prefer staying in the mid-to-higher end hotels in the Marriott brand. I read through the reviews for, as a bare minimum, a 4.4 rating but prefer 4.6+. In almost every case, the result is the basics... clean, comfortable, predictable... i.e.; invisible. Probably costs more than an AirBnB but I don't trust AirBnB reviews. With AirBnB, there is nobody establishing basic standards of acceptability. Marriott may not be perfect but whenever I find something I think not up to the standards, I get a reasonable adjustment (discount, free nights, points) without any argument. AirBnB has marginal corporate standards and doesn't stand behind the product (at least not without some degree of hassle). Too often, those who don't travel very often will write 5 star reviews. Too often,

either they have low standards that don't match mine or do not have the experience to discriminate. For those of you who like AirBnB, live long and prosper but, for the most part, that is not my preference.
